SRX4741380: Metagenome of mineral precipitates from Jinata Onsen source pool
1 ILLUMINA (Illumina HiSeq 3000) run: 84.2M spots, 16.6G bases, 6Gb downloads

Design: Shotgun metagenomic sequencing
Submitted by: Harvard University
Study: hot springs metagenome Genome sequencing and assembly
show Abstracthide Abstract
The goal of this project was to characterize the microbial community of Japanese hot springs as unique analogs of early Earth environments, including those in which geobiologically important rock types like stromatolites and banded iron formations were deposited. Understanding the diversity and metabolisms of microbes in these environments, and the geochemical cycling they support, will help us to understand how these rock types may have formed early in Earth history.
